Athletes can join the Phoenix Bobcats at any point during the season. While we encourage participation for the full season to maximize development, we understand that some families find us mid-season—and we still welcome you! In these cases, membership dues can be pro-rated to reflect the portion of the season remaining.
Location: Thunderbird High School
Practice is held Monday through Thursday from 5:30–6:45 PM.
Additional practices may be offered on Fridays during non-meet weekends.
Saturdays and Sundays are reserved for private sessions, which can be scheduled directly with coaches.
Practice days are flexible; Athletes can attend one day a week or multiple days, with the flexibility to choose different days based on their schedule. While we recommend at least three practices per week to maximize development, we support all levels of commitment. We understand that many athletes balance multiple sports and busy family schedules, so our program is designed to be flexible and work for you.
We offer a 1-week trial period for new Athletes to experience our program This allows participants to find the right fit before making a full commitment.
USA Track & Field (USATF) requires that all event registrants have their date of birth verified. When registering, you will need to provide a copy of your athlete’s birth certificate.
Youth competitions are organized into two-year age divisions, allowing athletes to compete against others of similar age and ability.
An athlete’s age group is determined by the age they will turn that year. For example, if Sam’s 11th birthday is October 5, 2026, they will compete in the 11–12 age division for the entire 2026 season, even though they are still 10 at the start of the season.
We offer training for athletes ages 5–18, as well as a Masters program for athletes 18 and older.
The Phoenix Bobcats offer a full range of track and field events for athletes of all ages and skill levels. Our program includes sprints, middle-distance, and long-distance running, relays, and a variety of field events such as high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, shot put, discus, javelin, and mini-javelin. Whether your athlete is just starting out or looking to specialize, we provide coaching and training to help them develop speed, strength, technique, and confidence while enjoying the excitement of track and field competition.
Track meets are typically held every 2–3 weeks, though occasionally there may be meets on consecutive weekends. Schedules are determined by USATF Arizona, and athletes can usually expect one to two meets per month.
The length of time at a meet depends on your athlete and the number of events they are competing in. Some athletes participate in a single event and only attend for that session, while others compete in multiple events and may be at the meet for most of the day. Whenever possible, we provide meet schedules in advance so families can plan and select events that work best for them.
Our club participates in specialty meets in partnership with Great Hearts, held on Thursdays at our home track Thunderbird High School. These meets are open to athletes in grades 5–8 and run from 5:30–8:00 PM.
We’re more than just a club—we’re a community. Parental involvement is essential to the success of our program and the safety and enjoyment of our athletes.
Parents are expected to volunteer throughout the season to help with meet events, such as managing the long jump pit or assisting younger athletes safely return to their families at the finish line.
We especially need help setting up and breaking down campsites—since we use the tents throughout the day, your support in putting them up and taking them down is greatly appreciated.
Sign-up sheets will be provided, and we ask that each parent volunteers at least three times during the season.
Your support helps create a safe, organized, and fun experience for all athletes, and strengthens our Bobcats community.
All Phoenix Bobcats coaches are USATF Safe Sport certified, meaning they have undergone professional background checks and completed a comprehensive Safe Sport education program. This certification ensures our coaches are trained to prevent abuse, harassment, bullying, and other misconduct, creating a safe and positive environment for all athletes. Safe Sport is part of USATF’s commitment to protecting participants at every level of track and field.
